Celebrating Next-generation Broadcast with MPEG-H Audio at the 4K UHD Summit X Edition

Delivering outstanding broadcast and streaming experiences requires the united work of a multitude of players. This is made possible through the continuous efforts of all to exchange news and knowledge in order to advance the industry. In Spain, this work is aided by the non-profit association UHD Spain. Fraunhofer IIS is a founding member and performs technical tests in relation to Next Generation Audio and its features as well as actively participating in several UHD Spain working groups.

And that’s why the Fraunhofer team looks forward to celebrating the X edition of the 4K UHD summit in Seville from November 11 to 14. The two in-situ-days on Monday 11 and Tuesday 12 at the Nissan Cartuja Auditorium and the following two virtual ones are filled with guests from all over the world and all areas of the industry. The program will focus on the past, present, and future of the most advanced broadcast technologies and Fraunhofer IIS is excited to contribute to it with the following keynote and demonstrations.

The keynote on Tuesday, 11.11. will focus on a project that paves the way into the future of broadcast and streaming: In Brazil, DTV+ is the talk of the industry and the Fraunhofer flagship technology MPEG-H Audio is the only mandatory audio system of this cutting-edge new standard. The TV 2.5 and TV 3.0 projects are particularly relevant, as they are at the technological vanguard of the international broadcast industry and best practice examples of how the standardization of a new broadcast system benefits from the selection of technologies based on the independent evaluation of candidates. The largest economy in Latin America can now rely on an extraordinarily robust and future-proof system that transforms a media industry that has always been of global relevance into a highly significant showcase. The presentation highlights the latest developments in this project with a focus on live sports productions and the first implementations of MPEG-H Audio with coherent UIs across several TV brands.

The accompanying demo includes a complete live chain streaming from Germany to Seville using professional solutions. Visitors can not only experience the reception of content – they can interact with it, explore market-ready devices and tools, and learn more about MPEG-H Authoring. The content presented at the Fraunhofer IIS table will give a great impression of the new experiences audiences can enjoy thanks to MPEG-H Audio and 4K HDR. They include the advanced personalization and accessibility options that MPEG-H Audio excels in, including better intelligibility through dialog enhancement.
