Discover MPEG-H Audio on Consumer Electronics devices at CES 2025

The global consumer electronics industry starts every year with a bang. At CES in Las Vegas, the latest and indeed the greatest innovations and announcements are shared.

As a global leader in audio research and development, Fraunhofer IIS is a regular at the show. This year, we share exciting news about the most advanced audio system for streaming and broadcast applications, MPEG-H Audio.

Following its adoption for the next generation broadcast systems of South Korea, Brazil and Japan, globally leading CE manufacturers are releasing more and more devices with MPEG-H Audio support. Some of them will be used to showcase the features and benefits of the most advanced audio system on the market in the Fraunhofer CES suite 34-209 at The Venetian.

The advantages of MPEG-H Audio, especially for live broadcast and streaming, will be demonstrated with content produced in MPEG-H Audio during major live sports events and concerts. They include immersive and personalized sound, the possibility to choose between several commentators and audio mixes such as venue sound or a classic mix, as well as accessibility options like dialog enhancement and audio description. At the Fraunhofer suite, visitors can experience MPEG-H Audio on TV sets from major brands. The devices have integrated user interfaces to customize the audio content and HDMI passthrough support that creates a compelling immersive sound experience on connected soundbars and AVRs.

Brazil’s upcoming TV 3.0 (DTV+) standard is currently being finalized and its publication is expected in early 2025. The standard includes mandatory support of the MPEG-H Audio system’s entire feature set, which ensures the best customer experience. Brazil’s leading broadcasters, including Globo and TV Cultura, already use MPEG-H Audio to deliver customizable immersive sound with a high degree of accessibility over the existing ISDB-T terrestrial broadcast system. During the 2024 Olympic Games, Globo conducted the first end-to-end DTV+ transmission with major CE industry partners like Hisense, LG, and Samsung.

We are looking forward to many visitors in our suite 34-209 at The Venetian, so make sure you book your meeting through the Fraunhofer IIS website as soon as you can!
