Fraunhofer IIS partners with Jiuzhou and Realtek to enable MPEG-H Audio support in their Android TV Set-Top-Box

Fraunhofer IIS partners with Shenzhen Jiuzhou Electric Co., Ltd. and Realtek Semiconductor Corp. to integrate MPEG-H Audio support into their Android TV set-top-box to make it fit for Brazil’s TV 3.0 broadcast system.

Jiuzhou, the globally leading Digital TV and Broadband Equipment provider, has announced its commitment to pioneering the adoption of TV 3.0 technologies and the rapid delivery of hybrid OTA- and OTT-based services on the Brazilian market in collaboration with major broadcasters in Brazil. These partnerships aim to ultimately bring unprecedented viewing experiences to audiences worldwide, starting with the first TV 3.0 end-to-end showcase conducted by Globo during a major sports event this summer in Paris.

“We are thrilled to showcase our state-of-the-art TV 3.0 solution and add MPEG-H Audio support to the latest Realtek Android platform, powered by the world’s first 4K UHD STB SoC RTD1319D with VVC and LCEVC support, during the showcase organized by Globo in Rio de Janeiro,” said David Xia, Vice President of Shenzhen Jiuzhou Electric Co. “TV 3.0 represents a paradigm shift for global television audiences, offering more immersive and interactive experiences. For broadcasters, it opens new revenue possibilities through interactive advertising and program-related e-commerce.”

For this showcase, Globo set up a complete production and transmission chain in their facilities in Rio de Janeiro. It used VVC video, an LCEVC video enhancement layer, and MPEG-H Audio according to the TV 3.0 specification that is standardized by the SBTVD Forum. With an intuitive user interface for customizing the MPEG-H Audio experience, the Jiuzhou device is one of the first set-top boxes ready for TV 3.0.

“We are delighted to work closely with Jiuzhou and Realtek for adding advanced audio capabilities to an Android TV based set-top box and providing personalized and immersive sound experiences to their customers,” said Adrian Murtaza, Senior Manager, Technology and Standards at Fraunhofer IIS. “Our collaboration ensures that consumers will enjoy highest-quality sound, tailored to their preferences, making TV 3.0 a truly transformative experience.”
