Fraunhofer IIS exhibits MPEG-H Audio, the sole mandatory audio system of Brazil‘s upcoming TV 3.0 standard, at Set Expo’s booth #54 in Sao Paulo from August 19 to 22.
SET Expo is the largest trade show for broadcast and new media in Latin America. It connects professionals in the fields of television, cinema, radio, and telecommunications so they can share knowledge and showcase the latest technologies and services. And ever since Brazil started the major technological upgrade of their TV infrastructure to the next-generation TV 3.0 standard, the eyes of the international broadcast industry have been on the leader of the Latin-American broadcasting ecosystem.
Fraunhofer IIS, a world leader in applied research and development, is proud to be part of this transformation and to contribute their flagship technology MPEG-H Audio to TV 3.0 and to the intermediate TV 2.5 standard, which is currently implemented in Brazil. The Next Generation Audio system for broadcast and streaming applications delivers immersive and personalized sound experiences. SET Expo 2024 is the first exhibition showcasing all technologies chosen for the TV 3.0 standard in action. Fraunhofer IIS will present MPEG-H Audio together with other innovative broadcast technologies relevant for both, TV 2.5 and TV 3.0 at their booth #54.
Key demonstrations at the Fraunhofer IIS booth include:
- TV 2.5: Hisense is the first provider of TV sets in Brazil that are ready for TV 2.5 and also feature MPEG-H Audio support, MPEG-H Audio user interfaces, and HDMI passthrough. A Hisense TV with advanced audio capabilities as well as TV 2.5 reception will be on display.
- TV 3.0 experience: A living room setup featuring a Hisense TV with MPEG-H Audio and VVC support for TV 3.0 will demonstrate how viewers can experience next-generation interactive TV in their homes with an MPEG-H Audio capable soundbar and AVR.
- Consumer Devices for TV 3.0: Major CE brands are launching devices that are ready for TV 3.0. Fraunhofer showcases several examples, including LG and Samsung TV prototypes. Set-top-boxes from Shenzhen Jiuzhou Electric and Tolka Telecommunications already enable viewers to customize their audio experience through an integrated MPEG-H Audio user interface.
- MPEG-H Audio Production: MPEG-H Audio content production will demonstrate the importance of personalized options for audiences and the various solutions available for content providers and specialists.
Major Brazilian broadcasters including Globo, Rede Amazonica, and TV Cultura have already adopted MPEG-H Audio in their ISDB-T broadcast services, enhancing viewers’ sound experience. The demonstrations at the Fraunhofer booth highlight how MPEG-H Audio is revolutionizing the viewing experience in Brazil and paving the way for the transition from the TV 2.5 to the TV 3.0 broadcast system.
