Fraunhofer IIS Showcasing the Future of Broadcasting at Set Expo 2025

For professionals in television, cinema, radio, and telecommunications, SET Expo stands as Latin America’s premier platform to connect, discover, and showcase the latest broadcast technologies. From August 19 to 21, at the Centro de Convenções in Distrito Anhembi, São Paulo, Brazil, Fraunhofer IIS will be exhibiting at booth #47 — featuring MPEG-H Audio, the advanced audio technology behind Brazil’s next-generation DTV+ system.

Following the soon-expected government decree mandating the use of MPEG-H Audio for broadcast services in Brazil, Fraunhofer IIS will play a central role at the show. Our demonstrations will spotlight the codec’s diverse capabilities, including immersive sound, interactive features, and accessibility enhancements. As Brazil transitions into a new era of next-generation audio broadcasting, MPEG-H Audio will be front and center at SET Expo — offering industry professionals hands-on experience with the technology that will define the country’s audio landscape for years to come.

Discover the full immersive and personalized audio experience with MPEG-H Audio at SET Expo

MPEG-H Audio, the mandatory audio codec for Brazil’s next-generation broadcast system DTV+ (TV 3.0), has already been adopted by several key industry players. Among them is Globo, South America’s largest media company, which, together with the Brazilian government and its partner Seja Digital, has launched pilot DTV+ stations. These pilot stations are designed to test all technologies and system components in preparation for the commercial rollout of DTV+, scheduled ahead of the 2026 Soccer World Cup.

One of the highlights is the first live demonstration of a DTV+ signal broadcasted over the air and received by Set-top-boxes and TV sets featuring DTV+. This demo offers a preview of the television experience of tomorrow — showcasing how immersive, interactive, and personalized audio will reach Brazilian households through DTV+.

A second demo focuses on the user benefits of DTV+ at home. Visitors can explore features like dialog enhancement, language selection, and accessibility options in a real-world living room setup. The system includes an MPEG-H Audio compatible AVR by Denon / Marantz connected to an LG TV, a state-of-the art soundbar, and a 5.1.4. loudspeaker setup, to deliver finest immersive audio.

Visitors can also explore a range of professional production tools already available for creating MPEG-H Audio content. Whether for live or post-production, Fraunhofer’s and its partners’ authoring and monitoring solutions cover the full content chain — from production to delivery and playback. With the integration of MPEG-H Audio in some of the world’s most used DAWs including Nuendo 13 by Steinberg, DaVinci Resolve by Blackmagic Design, and Pro Tools by Avid, there are endless possibilities for users to transform their creative concepts into reality.

For the first time at SET Expo, we will demonstrate MPEG-H Audio over IP networks, in accordance with the SMPTE ST 2110 standard. In collaboration with our partners Ateme, BBright, Jünger, and Telos Alliance, this demo will show how S-ADM metadata is transmitted using ST 2110-41 and ST 2127, enabling dynamic, high-quality audio delivery over IP — from authoring to encoding to final distribution.

Join us at booth #47 at SET Expo in São Paulo to experience the full potential of DTV+ and discover how MPEG-H Audio is shaping the future of broadcasting in Brazil. Immerse yourself in the next-generation audio standard and see what’s already possible — today.

We look forward to welcoming you!
