Realtek has licensed MPEG-H Audio Software from Fraunhofer IIS to support the rollout of DTV+ in Brazil across an even wider range of receiving devices, as well as worldwide streaming services.

Realtek’s MPEG-H Audio implementation brings together the key technologies needed to support Brazil’s DTV+ market. It comprises the MPEG-H Decoder for playback, the MPEG-H UI Manager with dedicated APIs for streaming applications, and MPEG-H passthrough to connect with MPEG-H-enabled soundbars and AV receivers. Together, the implementation gives device manufacturers and service providers a complete user experience, from in-app customization to high-quality playback on connected home audio systems.

Realtek’s support for MPEG-H Audio will help expand compatibility in set-top boxes, smart TVs, and other receiving devices used for DTV+ services in Brazil. At the same time, it creates a strong basis for streaming applications that want to offer MPEG-H Audio to a global audience. The partnership reflects the growing importance of end-to-end support for next-generation audio formats across both broadcast and streaming delivery chains.
The MPEG-H Audio decoder will first be deployed on Realtek’s RTD1319D system-on-chip, with support for additional Realtek streaming and broadcast SoC platforms planned in future product releases.
“By licensing MPEG-H Audio from Fraunhofer IIS and integrating it into our platform roadmap, we enable device manufacturers and service providers to deliver the most advanced entertainment experiences to consumers worldwide,” said Yee-Wei Huang, Realtek’s vice president and spokesman. “Combined with the RTD1319D’s powerful 4K UHD video capabilities and support for modern streaming and broadcast services, MPEG‑H Audio further strengthens Realtek’s position as a leading platform provider for next-generation television and media devices.”
“Our collaboration with Realtek demonstrates the growing momentum behind MPEG-H Audio adoption in the Brazilian DTV+ ecosystem and beyond,” said Adrian Murtaza, Chief Business Development Manager at Fraunhofer IIS. “By combining Realtek’s device expertise with Fraunhofer IIS’s audio technology, the two companies are helping pave the way for richer audio experiences in next-generation TV and streaming services.”
For Fraunhofer IIS, the collaboration marks another step in the continued international rollout of MPEG-H Audio as a key technology for immersive and interactive television sound. The software’s flexibility allows device makers to integrate the technology into a wide variety of platforms, making sure that viewers can benefit from personalized and spatial audio experiences regardless of the device they use.
