Experience Next-generation TV with Fraunhofer IIS at IBC 2024

Every year, the who is who of the broadcast industry from Europe and all over the world meets in Amsterdam to compare notes on what is new. Fraunhofer IIS will exhibit recent developments surrounding the MPEG-H Audio system. Just a few weeks ago, Brazil’s SBTVD Forum finalized the standardization of their next-generation TV 3.0 infrastructure with the Fraunhofer technology as the sole mandatory audio codec. Now, the new system will be gradually rolled out under the brand name DTV+. At the recent sports celebration in Paris, Brazilian media giant Globo showcased a complete DTV+ broadcast chain, proving that it is ready to go and that tools, devices, and specifications are in place for every step of the way.

Customer Experience

Major global CE brands are now implementing MPEG-H Audio support into their devices to open the doors for immersive, personalized experiences to global audiences.

  • TV 2.5 using ISDB-Tb with MPEG-H Audio with one of the new TV models from Hisense for TV 2.5 and TV 3.0.
  • See the upcoming DTV+ (TV 3.0) experience in real life with a prototype TV model by LG featuring MPEG-H Audio and VVC support.
  • The set-top-boxes on display from Shenzhen Jiuzhou Electric, Tolka Telecommunications and VBox enable viewers to customize their audio experience without exchanging their TV set.
  • With their AndroidTV App, Mirakulo created a solution that turns any TV into an MPEG-H Audio capable device ready for today’s Brazilian broadcast (TV 2.5) and future TV 3.0.

Industry-wide Implementation

Also visit the Ultra HD Forum booth (3.B21 in Hall 3), where a Full Stack Demonstration of Brazil’s DTV+ (TV 3.0) system with MPEG-H Audio, Advanced HDR by Technicolor® and VVC will be put on by Fraunhofer IIS, Interdigital, and Ateme. It includes encoder and display-side solutions for implementing SBTVD standards (including TV 2.5 and TV 3.0) and will showcase the impactful interactive and immersive sound experience along with the most vivid high dynamic range HDR images.
