As Brazil continues its transition toward next-generation television, one of the country’s leading broadcasters SBT (Sistema Brasileiro de Televisão), recently hosted a hands-on workshop at its headquarters in São Paulo. The goal: evaluate MPEG-H Audio for both TV 2.5, Brazil’s current digital terrestrial broadcast system, and DTV+ (TV 3.0), the future nationwide broadcast standard.
The workshop focused on the practical implementation of MPEG-H Audio in both post-production and live broadcast workflows. A complete end-to-end TV 2.5 broadcast chain was deployed, including dedicated productions in MPEG-H Audio, over-the-air transmission, and reception on commercially available consumer electronics devices.
The event brought together technical experts, broadcast engineers, and industry stakeholders to assess the readiness of MPEG-H Audio for real-world deployment across both current and future broadcast environments. The live demonstration proved that immersive and personalized audio experiences powered by MPEG-H Audio are not just a vision for the future—they are fully achievable today using Brazil’s existing broadcast infrastructure.
Paving the Way for DTV+ with MPEG-H Audio
This workshop is part of a broader initiative in Brazil that aims to enhance the viewer’s TV 2.5 experience while actively preparing for the nationwide rollout of DTV+ expected in 2026. DTV+ will mandate MPEG-H Audio as the sole audio system, making it a cornerstone of the country’s next-generation broadcast infrastructure. With features such as immersive sound, personalized listening experiences, and advanced interactivity, MPEG-H Audio empowers broadcasters like SBT to lead the way in delivering cutting-edge television experiences to Brazilian audiences.
SBT’s commitment to the future of broadcasting
SBT’s involvement in MPEG-H Audio testing highlights its dedication to innovation and high-quality viewer experiences across both current and future TV standards. “At SBT, we are committed to delivering the best possible experience to our viewers by exploring the commercial deployment of TV 2.5 and DTV+ with MPEG-H Audio,” says Leandro Previdelli B. Lobo, Transmission and Distribution Manager at SBT. “The workshop in São Paulo marks an important step in understanding how to bring Next Generation Audio experiences to our audience with the existing infrastructure. Our goal is to offer cutting-edge broadcasting through the most advanced and flexible audio technology available.”
Attendees of SET Expo 2025 (August 18–21 in São Paulo) can experience MPEG-H Audio firsthand. Fraunhofer IIS will showcase live demonstrations of immersive and personalized audio workflows at their booth, highlighting how broadcasters can implement MPEG-H Audio in both TV 2.5 and DTV+ environments.
