Monitoring#

The Monitoring section offers a preview of your presets and interactivity settings and allows selecting audio from switch groups. Moreover, the rendering behaviour for different playback device classes and dynamic range compression (DRC) effects can be previewed.

Tip

For correct playback and loudness compensated preset switching during an authoring process, you will have to run a loudness measurement prior to the playback.

User Interactivity#

You can select the preset to render and adjust further interactivity within that preset.

  • If gain interactivity is enabled, you can set gain values within the defined ranges.

  • If position interactivity is enabled, you can move object components within the defined ranges.

  • You can also choose the rendered element of a switch group.

Monitoring Settings#

Dependent on the playback device, MPEG-H content is normalized to different target loudness values. This is reflected by the Device Class selection that changes the monitoring loudness accordingly.

The MPEG-H Audio system allows for adapting the dynamic range of the audio output to be most appropriate for the listening situation. To compare different DRC effect types on the monitoring output, they can be switched with the DRC Effect drop-down menu.

Not all DRC effect types are appropriate for all Device Classes. For example, for Mobile Devices, the target loudness is high, so that only DRC effect types with low dynamic range can be used in order to prevent clipping. The options in the DRC Effect drop-down menu are deactivated according to their availability.

Tip

In order to compare the different DRC effects during production, enable the “match”” function so that all settings are played back at the same loudness regardless of the selected Device Class’ target loudness.

  • Device Class: Defines the target rendering loudness.

  • DRC Effect: Selectes the DRC effect.

  • match: Applies a gain to the rendered audio to match -24 LKFS.
